Kailey Plumlee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Kat Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, DeKalb County made easy work of Upperman on Tuesday and carried off an 11-0 victory. The Tigers are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the eighth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Like Gordonsville, DeKalb County also got a great game from a two-way player: Kora Kilgore. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Kilgore was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Adcocok, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Rylee Wilbur also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
DeKalb County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in eight consecutive matches.
Gordonsville's win was their 30th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for DeKalb County, their record is now 13-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gordonsville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like DeKalb County struggles in that department as they've averaged .421. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gordonsville skirted past DeKalb County 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gordonsville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
