Softball Recap: Berkeley Has No Trouble Against Tennyson

After only two runs in their last game, Berkeley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Tennyson on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Lancers. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 19 runs or more this season.

June Shaller and Olive Lightfoot made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Shaller tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Lightfoot pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shaller scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Lightfoot scored a run while going 1-for-1.

In other pitching news, Addison Davis looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

Back at the plate, Camil Babij Ross and Rosa Sueaga did most of the damage at the plate: Babij Ross scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Sueaga scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Camden Bernhard was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Berkeley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Berkeley now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Tennyson, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

Berkeley and Tennyson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Yellowjackets will square off against Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th with a big rank disadvantage (569 vs. 104). Meanwhile, Tennyson (ranked 977th) will meet San Leandro (ranked 249th) at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th.
