Even though the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets scored an imposing 65 points on Tuesday, the Shelby Golden Lions still came out on top. Shelby came out on top in a nail-biter against Bessemer City and snuck past 67-65. For Shelby, this counts as revenge for the 61-43 defeat Bessemer City walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Leading Shelby to victory were Sydnie Enste and Dereon Kee. Enste scored 17 points, while Kee scored 20 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kee has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamiah Hopper, who scored 14 points.
Shelby is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. As for Bessemer City, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-12.
Shelby won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Shelby focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Bessemer City, they will be playing at home against Burns at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Kaylee Greene and Kionna Pettus.
