3A Conference 11 recap October 1, 2013
Orange added to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 11 this week by beating Northwood, 41-21. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Orange was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Chargers. Pat Moser's team came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 39 last week.
Cardinal Gibbons's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Shawn Stankavage threw for 255 and 4 touchdowns and Chris Gorman had 80 yards receiving. On the ground David Smith contributed 138 yards. Dante DiMaggio helped Cardinal Gibbons' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 57 yards.
The Crusaders' dynamic duo of Stankavage and Gorman proved to be unstoppable against Cedar Ridge, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. DiMaggio helped Cardinal Gibbons' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 57 yards.
He went 20-34 with 2 interceptions.
Northwood's Ti Pinnix and Jalen Smith led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pinnix has thrown for 1,248 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 37 catches for 556 yards. Cardinal Gibbons' Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 358.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Webb takes on Steven Wright's team. As it stands, the Warriors are in fifth, while the Crusaders are in third.
Southern took down Northern Vance 62-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
