Softball Recap: Central Takes Down Opelika in a Playoff Battle

Central had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Opelika Bulldogs 13-1 on Saturday. Considering the Red Devils have won 28 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Central got a great performance from Kayla Storey as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Storey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Allyson Supan was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerritt Griggs, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

The win was the 24th in a row for Central, bringing their record up to 41-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Opelika, they moved to 17-18 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-1 win against Auburn on the 26th. As for Opelika, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-6 loss against Smiths Station on the 26th.
