Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Frontier Regional

Frontier Regional won against Mount Greylock Regional last Friday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Red Hawks beat the Taconic Thunder by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-5. The win was nothing new for the Red Hawks as they're now sitting on five straight.

Raine Wonsey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skyler Steele was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ashley Taylor also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Steele wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Frontier Regional lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Frontier Regional's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Taconic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Frontier Regional will take on rival Greenfield at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Hawks 3.3, the Green Wave 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Taconic is set to square off against their familiar foe Mount Greylock Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
