The Thornton Trojans's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They secured a 43-37 W over Aurora Central. This was payback for Thornton, who suffered a 43-36 loss the last time these two teams met.
Thornton was led to victory by Camryn Montelongo and Julionna Sandoval. Montelongo dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds, while Sandoval scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sandoval has scored all season. My'la Hernandez Gutierrez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Aurora Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and three steals. Johnson Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna McClain, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Thornton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Aurora Central, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Adams City the next time they take the court. Thornton will host Adams City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Aurora Central will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
