Football Recap: Barrington Starts Season with Victory Against South Elgin + How To Watch

Barrington took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the South Elgin Storm 48-20. Given the Fillies/Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Storm are ranked 135th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Barrington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cameron Massillo, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Those 123 rushing yards gave Massillo a new career-high. Austin Coles was in the mix as well, providing Barrington with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Barrington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 225 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Barrington's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jackson Taylor, Kane Switski, and Jacob Patno, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barrington will square off against Hersey at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Elgin, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Batavia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
