Granger is on an 18-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Cyprus a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Granger Lancers will take on the Cyprus Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Granger suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 65-43 loss at the hands of Juan Diego Catholic. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Granger has scored all season.
Despite their loss, Granger saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Daudi Aweyso, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 37.2% of Granger's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cason Fleischel, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Granger struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Juan Diego Catholic pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Cyprus suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Juan Diego Catholic by a score of 58-56. Even though they lost, Cyprus' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Cyprus' loss came about despite a quality game from Paden Sharp, who went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sharp has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Xian Brown, who scored 12 points.
Granger's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Cyprus, they have fallen quite a ways from their 24-4 record last season and are now at 1-13.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Granger have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Cyprus, though, as they've been averaging only 7.4 threes per game. Given Granger's sizeable advantage in that area, Cyprus will need to find a way to close that gap.
Granger was taken down by Cyprus 100-57 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Granger, Quentin Meza (who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
