Softball Game Preview: Drury Blue Devils vs. Monument Mountain Spartans

Drury has gone 7-2 against Monument Mountain recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will challenge the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Drury and McCann Tech, and Drury kept the tradition alive. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-4 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Blue Devils have posted against the Hornets since April 18, 2022.

Olivia Perry made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Perry was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Norah Wood was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ariana Rivard, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monument Mountain gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Lee as they made off with a 9-2 victory. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 10, 2019.

Monument Mountain has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.0 runs this season. As for Drury, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Drury might still be hurting after the 17-8 defeat they got from Monument Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
