Labette County (Altamont, Kan.) High School, and sophomore
Steph Thomas of
Immaculate Heart Academy (Washington Township, N.J.), have all been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through May 19, 2012.
In the North Region, Marshall hit .750 for the week with 6 doubles, 4 home runs, 9 runs scored, and a whopping 14 RBI. The senior was a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate in a big win over Tippecanoe Valley (Ind.) with all 5 hits going for extra bases as she belted out 3 doubles and 2 home runs. On the year Marshall owns a .517 average with a 1.022 slugging percentage and 40 RBI. Her efforts at the plate helped the Tigers improve to 11-3 in conference and and a #10 ranking in Indiana.
Representing the South Region, Nunley went 3-0 on the mound including tossing two complete game shutouts against White County (Tenn.) and Coffee County Central (Tenn.). Along the way she struck out 37 while walking 4 of the 141 batters she faced to finish with a .26 ERA. So far this season she has an ERA of 1.37, with 159 strikeouts in 107.2 innings pitched. The Warriors are 18-2 and are ranked #2 in the state of Tennessee.
From the West Region, Harden improved her overall record to 25-1 with three complete game victories including two shutouts over Argonaut (Calif.) and Linden (Calif.). The junior scattered 7 hits and struck out 34 while yielding only one earned run in 21 innings. Of her 25 wins this year, 15 of them have been shutouts. Harden currently owns a .32 ERA with 285 strikeouts in 155 innings pitched. The Huskies are ranked #13 in California.
Out of the South Central Region, Reynolds is our first repeat award winner this season. The junior threw two shutouts and a no-hitter to help Labette County improve to 20-0 on the season. She struck out 36 and yielded only one walk in 20 innings to finish the week with a perfect 0.00 ERA. Her ERA has been without a blemish in her last five starts, resulting in Reynolds lowering her overall ERA to .30 on the season. In 138 innings Reynolds has struck out 254 against only 21 walks, holding opponents to a .078 average. The Grizzlies are currently ranked #2 in Kansas.
Rounding out this week's awards from the East Region, Thomas led the region with a perfect ERA and three victories. The sophomore threw three perfect innings in a big win over Passaic (N.J.) striking out 6 of the 9 batters she faced. Of Thomas' 20 wins this season, 15 have been shutouts and she has yielded only one extra base hit in 123.2 innings pitched. Her efforts this week lowered her overall ERA to .51. The wins improved the Eagles record to 25-0 and a #1 ranking in New Jersey
