Basketball Recap: Downey Falls Despite Big Games from Kayden Mcdonald and Emerson Digiore

Downey lost against El Capitan back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Downey Knights came up short against the El Capitan Gauchos, falling 60-36. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 986th, while the Gauchos are ranked 434th).

Downey's loss came despite strong showings from Emerson Digiore and Kayden Mcdonald. Digiore posted 13 points and three steals, while Mcdonald dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards. Mcdonald is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Trey Richards, who had three points and three steals.

Downey is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for El Capitan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Downey didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-23 loss against Pleasant Valley on the 28th. As for El Capitan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-37 win against Turlock on the 28th.
