The Topsail Pirates suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were dealt a 75-41 defeat at the hands of Hoggard. While losing is never fun, Topsail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Hoggard is ranked 132nd).
Topsail's loss came despite strong showings from Jarrett Trawick and Spencer Henry. Trawick scored seven points, while Henry scored five points.
Leading Hoggard to victory were Malakahi West and Jaylen Herring. West scored 14 points along with five rebounds, while Herring scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points West has scored all season. Another player making a difference was TiYeon Wilson, who scored five points along with nine steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Topsail and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Hoggard, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Topsail will take on South Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully South Brunswick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Wednesday. As for Hoggard, they will be playing at home against New Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
