If the Columbia Roughnecks were riding high off their 58-19 takedown of the La Marque Cougars last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Columbia suffered a rough 51-29 loss at the hands of the Exporters on Friday. While losing is never fun, Columbia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1137th, while the Exporters are ranked 416th).
Despite the loss, Columbia still got an impressive performance from Kaleese Swanks, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alexia Lewis, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Leading Brazosport to victory were Londyn Brown and Deja El Amin. Brown dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds, while El Amin dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds. Brown is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 11 games she's played. Sanii Player was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Columbia dropped their record down to 10-20 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Brazosport, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season.
Columbia will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stafford has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15. As for Brazosport, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sweeny focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
