Basketball Recap: Jordan Murphy Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Dixie County

Lafayette won the last time they faced Dixie County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lafayette Hornets skirted past the Dixie County Bears 43-41. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Hornets were down 34-19 in the third quarter.

Lafayette's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Murphy, who posted 17 points and three steals. The match was Murphy's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Trevor Mares, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Lafayette smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Lafayette has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Dixie County, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lafayette and Chiefland will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Dixie County, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bell at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Dixie County has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-4 during that stretch of close contests.
