Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact Copper Hills proved on Thursday. They breezed by Layton on the road to the tune of 65-35. Given Copper Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Layton is ranked 43rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Copper Hills' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Skylie Barker, who scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds, and Ellie Taylor, who scored 20 points along with 8 steals and 3 blocks. That makes it two consecutive games in which Barker has scored at least 25% of Copper Hills' points. Ayla Marston was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Skyridge's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Copper Hills, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Skyridge have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Copper Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
