Corbin extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 13-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southwestern Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Redhounds have suffered against the Warriors since May 13, 2019.
Corbin got a good showing from Eli Maynes, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Maynes a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Cam Estep made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Trey Person was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Southwestern, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.
On Southwestern's side, Jackson Couch was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. What's more, Couch posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Shipp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Coming up, Corbin will take on Whitley County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Redhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colonels have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Southwestern, they will square off against Pulaski County at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
