Maize South faced Lansing in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mavericks had just enough and edged out the Lions 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.

Despite the loss, Lansing saw an underclassman step up: freshman Avery Dessert had seven digs and one assist. Drew Malm also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Maize South's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Lansing, with the defeat, they broke their 11-match winning streak and moved their record to 18-5.

Maize South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Bishop Carroll on the 27th. As for Lansing, they have also already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Bishop Miege on the 27th.
