The Luther Cougars managed to keep up with the Stony Brook Bears until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Luther suffered a rough 74-48 defeat at the hands of Stony Brook. Luther has struggled against Stony Brook recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Luther had strong showings from Tristan Elcock, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Gavin Hugine, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Elcock is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played.
Luther has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Stony Brook, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Luther will be playing at home against Woodmere Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Luther focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday. Stony Brook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
