The Dawson Eagles will challenge the Pearland Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Dawson sitting on four straight victories and Pearland on five.
Dawson took a 21-point defeat the last time they faced off against Shadow Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 win over the Sharks on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since September 19, 2024.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dawson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gregory Earl, who rushed for 96 yards and one score. Corey Brown was another key player, gaining 90 total yards and a touchdown.
Dawson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kayden Rogers and Bryson Flynn. Another thorn in Shadow Creek's side was James Higgins, who made 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pearland). They blew past Manvel 66-14 on Friday. With the Oilers ahead 42-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Dawson better keep an eye on Ja'Maurey Champion. He was instrumental in Pearland's win, rushing for 180 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Champion was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Jake Westmoreland, who threw for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 passes.
Dawson's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Pearland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Dawson came up short against Pearland in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 42-29. Thankfully for the Eagles, Tate Chisolm (who rushed for 227 yards and five scores while picking up 8.7 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
