2A District 5 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Okemah extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 5 this week by beating Holdenville, 56-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Okemah took down the Wolverines 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Haskell's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Wheeland threw for 194 and two touchdowns and Colby Graves had 91 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Presley chipped in 90 yards. Presley helped Haskell's passing attack out by catching three balls for 81 yards.
Meeker's Jake Standlee and Nick Cagle have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Standlee has thrown for 646 yards this season, while Cagle, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 13 catches for 351 yards. The Haymakers' Wheeland leads the league in rushing yards with 814.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Joe Turner's team takes on Haskell. The Panthers are currently in second, while the Haymakers are in third.
Mounds made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,817 from 13,320. The advance stemmed from a 46-14 victory over Wellston last week.
