The Hempstead Bobcats's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Van Vleck Leopards on Tuesday. Hempstead took down Danbury 74-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Hempstead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dontae Houston, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Thompson, who scored 16 points.
Despite the loss, Danbury still got an impressive performance from Mason Mitchell, who scored 25 points along with five steals. That was a full 44.6% of Danbury's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jace Flora, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Danbury struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hempstead pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Hempstead now has a winning record of 15-14. As for Danbury, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-23 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hempstead will take on Brazos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hempstead is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season. As for Danbury, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hitchcock at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hitchcock has 11 straight victories, Danbury has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
