Huntley has gone a perfect 10-0 against Dundee-Crown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Red Raiders will take on the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Huntley has three straight victories, Dundee-Crown has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Huntley's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Central with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Gretchen Huber, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Central off the board. Huber has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sadie Svendsen was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava McFadden, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Huntley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Dundee-Crown fell victim to Hampshire and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Whip-Purs, falling 15-0. The shutout was out of character for the Chargers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Huntley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dundee-Crown, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-19.
Dundee-Crown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Huntley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Dundee-Crown, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Huntley's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Huntley skirted past Dundee-Crown 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
