The Wayne County War EaglesLady War Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Greene County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wayne County barely beat Quitman the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The War EaglesLady War Eagles put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 8-2 victory on Saturday. The War EaglesLady War Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Colt Branch, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jagger Walker, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greene County). They blew past Perry Central 18-7 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7.3 runs per game.
Greene County got a massive performance out of Zaine Moody, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Eli Herring also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Greene County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Wayne County's record now sits at 5-3. As for Greene County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wayne County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greene County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wayne County came up short against Greene County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 4-0. Can the War EaglesLady War Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
