Scio is 0-6 against Santiam Christian since April of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Loggers will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Scio has given up an average of 12.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Scio managed to slip by Yamhill-Carlton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Loggers came up short against the Tigers on Tuesday, falling 12-3. The Loggers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Triston Garton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Henry Siegmund was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Santiam Christian had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. They beat the Warriors by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 17-2. Considering the Eagles have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Hunter Hedlund, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chess Lewer, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Santiam Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.
Santiam Christian's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Scio, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Scio has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Santiam Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Scio might still be hurting after the 24-0 loss they got from Santiam Christian when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Loggers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
