Elma will square off against Cedar Park Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Elma is returning to their home field after beating Adna on theirs, despite the fact Adna has dominated at home this season. The Eagles blew past the Pirates 12-2 on Monday. Elma's win was all the more impressive since the Pirates were averaging only 4.05 runs allowed on the season.
Meanwhile, Cedar Park Christian had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over the Stormrays.
Shelby Southard was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Katelyn Charlton was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Adelaide Foster was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Cedar Park Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Elma's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Cedar Park Christian, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Elma beat Cedar Park Christian 4-1 when the teams last played back in March. Will Elma repeat their success, or does Cedar Park Christian has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
