The Nipomo Titans are taking a road trip to challenge the San Luis Obispo Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nipomo is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
If Nipomo beats San Luis Obispo with 17 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Titans blew past Santa Maria 17-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Titans have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Van Muysen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Vivianne Goss was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sophie Quaresma, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for San Luis Obispo's offense. They lost 6-0 to Kingsburg on Tuesday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Tigers haven't been shut out since back in March.
San Luis Obispo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kailani Howard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Nipomo pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for San Luis Obispo, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nipomo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like San Luis Obispo struggles in that department as they've averaged .406. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Nipomo's way against San Luis Obispo in their previous meeting on April 1st, as Nipomo made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
