Basketball Recap: Logan Ruddy Key Part of a Team Effort in Falcons Win

After losing to Earlville the last time they met, Flanagan-Cornell decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Flanagan-Cornell Falcons managed a 59-55 victory over the Earlville Red Raiders on Friday. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Red Raiders are ranked 672nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Flanagan-Cornell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Logan Ruddy out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Reed, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Flanagan-Cornell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Earlville only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Earlville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Adam Waite, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Waite is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Easton Fruit was another key player, putting up 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Flanagan-Cornell pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Earlville, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Flanagan-Cornell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 76-47 win against Hartsburg-Emden on the 14th. As for Earlville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Illinois Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Earlville is facing Illinois Math & Science Academy at the right time seeing as Illinois Math & Science Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
