On Wednesday, the Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties faced the Chariho Chargers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mount St. Charles Academy fell 56-43 to Chariho. Mount St. Charles Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Chariho apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Mount St. Charles Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emma Roberts, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Mariia Solovian was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Mount St. Charles Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Keira Frias, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Chariho. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Jules White, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Mount St. Charles Academy and nudges their season record down to 6-2. As for Chariho, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount St. Charles Academy will take on West Warwick at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (West Warwick is ranked 12th, while Mount St. Charles Academy is ranked 14th). As for Chariho, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Coventry at 6:45 p.m. Coventry will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
