After flying high against the Branchville Yellow Jackets on Friday, the Lake Marion Gators came back down to earth. Lake Marion took a 52-36 bruising from Cross on Saturday. Lake Marion has struggled against Cross recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Lake Marion's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Danasia Wright, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alayshia Wallace, who scored 7 points along with 3 blocks.
Lake Marion struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cross racked up 11.
Cross was led to victory by Lauren Middleton and Zhnia Fredricks. Middleton scored 16 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals, while Fredricks scored 15 points along with 6 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Middleton has scored at least 25% of Cross' points. Kierra Wright was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 12 rebounds.
Lake Marion's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Cross, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Marion will take on Cross at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cross is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lake Marion in South Carolina (Cross is ranked 15th, while Lake Marion is ranked 95th). As for Cross, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Stall at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th. Stall is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.8 points per game.
