Baseball Recap: Buckeye Wins Going Away Against Winslow

Buckeye had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Winslow on Friday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Bulldogs. With that win, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Mayco Morales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Buckeye is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-8 otherwise. Morales was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Maddox Villegas and Adrian Fierro did most of the damage at the plate: Villegas scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Fierro scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Buckeye is 2-1 when Villegas posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Droing, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Buckeye always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Buckeye's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Winslow, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckeye will square off against Verrado at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Vipers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups. As for Winslow, they will take on Snowflake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lobos have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
