The Carrollwood Day Patriots and the Excel Christian Academy Spartans will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Carrollwood Day is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
Last Friday, Carrollwood Day lost to Tampa Prep at home by a decisive 62-44 margin. While losing is never fun, Carrollwood Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Tampa Prep is ranked 120th).
Despite their loss, Carrollwood Day saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Leighann Hanley, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Gianna Miller was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Excel Christian Academy pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to George Jenkins. Excel Christian Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carrollwood Day's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Excel Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Everything came up roses for Carrollwood Day against Excel Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2021 as the squad secured a 85-6 win.
