Clinton Prairie hasn't had much luck against Frontier recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Gophers will challenge the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Clinton Prairie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Clinton Prairie is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Traders Point Christian. The high-scoring effort was just what the Gophers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Sadie Weliver and Maddy Wessell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Weliver struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Wessell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Weliver got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs, while Wessell earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Weliver has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Keera Grizzle was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 2nd. Zelda Wampler was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Clinton Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traders Point Christian only posted an OBP of .263.
Meanwhile, Frontier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 12-0 to Twin Lakes. The shutout was out of character for the Falcons seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.
Frontier's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Clinton Prairie, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Frontier's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clinton Prairie has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Frontier, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Clinton Prairie's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
