Mason unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 3-1 to the St. Ursula Academy Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Comets have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
While Mason had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22.
St. Ursula Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Frietch, who had 24 digs and six assists. Frietch has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more digs the last 16 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Dwyer, who had eight digs and two aces.
Looking ahead, Mason will welcome Ursuline Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Ursula Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Bishop Fenwick at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
