Cardinal hasn't had much luck against Wickliffe recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Cardinal is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Cardinal will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Crestwood on Monday. The Huskies walked away with an 11-6 win over the Red Devils.
Maggie Grant made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Adelyn Grant was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Natalie Soltis also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Cardinal kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wickliffe, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Crestwood an 11-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Leigha Blazetic, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Crestwood off the board. Blazetic has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Amanda Peklay, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Lorelai Nichols was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Cardinal pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Wickliffe, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Cardinal's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Huskies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wickliffe, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cardinal continue to outrun the ball?
Cardinal might still be hurting after the 16-2 defeat they got from Wickliffe in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
