Baseball Game Preview: Geneseo Blue Devils vs. Hornell Red Raiders

The Geneseo Blue Devils will challenge the Hornell Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Geneseo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Geneseo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Mount Morris with a sharp 21-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for Geneseo, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Geneseo got a massive performance out of Brady O'Brien, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave O'Brien a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Churchfield, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Geneseo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Hornell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Palmyra-Macedon, falling 11-0. The match marked the first time this year in which Hornell was not able to get on the board.

Hornell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Geneseo, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Hornell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneseo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Hornell, though, as they've only averaged .181. Will they be able to contain Geneseo's hitters?

Geneseo was able to grind out a solid win over Hornell in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, winning 3-0. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
