Even though Newton scored an imposing 63 points on Tuesday, Haysville Campus still came out on top. Everything went Haysville Campus' way against Newton as Haysville Campus made off with a 83-63 victory. Given Haysville Campus' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Newton is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Haysville Campus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaason Thomas, who scored 24 points along with six assists and six steals. The game was Thomas' third in a row with at least ten points. Andrell Burton, Jr was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Maize came up short against Maize South on Tuesday and fell 54-42. Maize has struggled against Maize South recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Haysville Campus' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Maize, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Haysville Campus came up short against Maize in their previous matchup back in February, falling 76-69. Can Haysville Campus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
