The Edgar Wildcats will face off against the Athens Bluejays at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Edgar will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
It was a proper cat-fight when Edgar took on Newman Catholic on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kendyl Apfelbeck made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Jorja Knetter was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Isabella Kaiser was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Edgar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Athens didn't have quite enough to beat Tomahawk on Tuesday and fell 6-5. The Bluejays haven't had much luck with the Hatchets recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Jaelin Switlick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Brynley Louis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brinley Kornack, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Edgar now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edgar has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Athens struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Edgar's way against Athens when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Edgar made off with an 8-2 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Bluejays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
