Basketball Recap: Palestine Comes Up Short

Palestine was the 77-50 winner over LaPoynor when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Palestine Wildcats fell 74-64 to the LaPoynor Flyers on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (60), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Palestine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bj Walker went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Walker is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Edwards, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Palestine was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Palestine's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5. As for LaPoynor, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.

Palestine wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-43 victory against Waco on the 12th. LaPoynor has also already played their next matchup, a 70-51 loss against Martins Mill on the 17th.
