Mount Desert Island is 2-8 against Old Town since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Coyotes at 1:00 p.m. Mount Desert Island has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mount Desert Island managed to slip by John Bapst Memorial the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans came up short against the Crusaders on Friday, falling 13-4. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Preston Tripp put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Tripp was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Tripp wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Grierson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, while Old Town put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Presque Isle. The Coyotes came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 4-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.
Not much got past Alex McCannell, who gave up just four hits to keep Presque Isle off the board. McCannell also tossed no walks, which is notable because Old Town is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nate Baker, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Mount Desert Island's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Old Town, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mount Desert Island has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Old Town struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mount Desert Island came out on top in a nail-biter against Old Town in their previous meeting on May 3rd, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
