Softball Recap: Dell Rapids Has No Trouble Against Vermillion

Dell Rapids won the last time they faced Vermillion and things went their way on Thursday too. The Quarriers were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Tanagers. The result was nothing new for the Quarriers, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Katie Kvigne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Halverson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lexi Scherff, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Dell Rapids kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Dell Rapids and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Vermillion, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
