Lytle and Dilley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Lytle will venture away from home to square off against Dilley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lytle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Lytle didn't have quite enough to beat Cotulla and fell 5-4. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kaycee Galindo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Giselle Esparza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Meanwhile, Dilley lost 9-3 to Hondo on Friday. The Wolves have struggled against the Owls recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Dakota San Miguel was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Kassidy Romeo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Even though they lost, Dilley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Dilley's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Lytle, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lytle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Dilley struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lytle suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Dilley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Lytle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
