The Fairfield Falcons will face off against the Leo Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fairfield came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-6 to Eastside. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Blazers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Preslee Caouette made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Fought, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Leo got themselves on the board against Huntington North on Monday, but Huntington North never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 10-0.
The result came thanks to Leah Shappell's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carley Funk, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Malina Lape was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Leo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Huntington North struck out 14 times.
Leo is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Both Fairfield and Leo just can't seem to miss. The Falcons have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Leo struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fairfield couldn't quite get it done against Leo when the teams last played back in June of 2015 as they fell 4-0. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
