San Juan is 8-2 against the Red Devils since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, San Juan came up short against the Braves and fell 71-60. San Juan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Anthony Done and Trevor Richins. Richins had a great game and scored 22 points along with five assists and four steals. Meanwhile, Done was balling out in the loss, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, San Juan were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Summit only racked up eight assists.
Meanwhile, Grand County unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Duchesne by a score of 66-63.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trace York, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Mckinney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
San Juan's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Grand County, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. San Juan hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.8 points per game. However, it's not like Grand County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 68.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
San Juan came up short against the Red Devils when the teams last played back in January, falling 73-67. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of York, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. Now that San Juan knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
