They were just one part of a punishing run game: De La Salle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 268 rushing yards in ten consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was De La Salle's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Leading the way was Wyatt Ferguson with two. He is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Pittsburg and Liberty, and Pittsburg kept the tradition alive. The Pirates put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 42-18 win on Friday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
De La Salle better focus on containing Kenneth Ward and Siotame Finau as the pair were huge in Pittsburg's win. Ward gained 112 total yards and a touchdown, while Finau rushed for 60 yards and a pair of TDs. Ward showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 62 yards.
Pittsburg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Truly Bell and Isaiah Harrison.

The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. De La Salle has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 290.4 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Pittsburg has preferred to attack from the air: they average 298.5 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
De La Salle came out on top in a nail-biter against Pittsburg when the teams last played back in November of 2024, sneaking past 10-7. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Pirates' Jamar Searcy, who rushed for 116 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Spartans to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
