Mentor is 2-7 against St. Ignatius since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
St. Ignatius will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Mentor extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Kirtland 9-7.
Peter Kennedy looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Mentor let Austin Vanhuss and Jake McCartney run wild. Vanhuss got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while McCartney went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. McCartney is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Wieland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. St. Ignatius sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Mayfield. St. Ignatius hasn't had any issues with Mayfield recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Vince Durny looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Jackson Boyer and Brayden Colleran did most of the damage at the plate: Boyer got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Colleran went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Colleran has hit this season. Another player making a difference was A.J. Peluso, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Ignatius was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive contests.
St. Ignatius' win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Mentor, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Mentor was able to grind out a solid win over St. Ignatius in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 13-9. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
