After a string of seven wins, the College Prep Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 60-53 to Athenian. While losing is never fun, College Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 699th, while Athenian is ranked 286th).
Surya Devasenapathy was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points for Athenian. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Devasenapathy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Teni Salako, who scored 12 points.
College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Athenian, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
College Prep will head out on the road to face off against Redwood Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Redwood Christian is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Athenian will take on Head-Royce at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Head-Royce's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
