Softball Recap: Ursuline Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

Ursuline Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Kennedy Cougars. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Shelby Culotta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Taylor Bellaci and Izzey Price did most of the damage at the plate: Bellaci went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Price got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Price a new career-high. Dixie Tatum was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Ursuline Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ursuline Academy will venture away from home to challenge Cabrini at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kennedy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Kennedy Cougars duke it out with Booker T. Washington Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
