Westwood is 2-7 against the Eagles since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Westwood Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Fairfield Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Westwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge.
A well-balanced attack led Westwood over the Goats in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Westwood blew the Goats out of the water with a 81-29 final score. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Goats are ranked 1389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Russell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Russell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fairfield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 68-50 to Mexia.
Westwood's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.2 points per game. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-17.
Westwood beat the Eagles 81-70 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
