The Florence Gophers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 53-32 loss at the hands of Coolidge. Florence lost against Coolidge in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-46 score last time.
Florence lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being E.c. Turk-francis, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Turk-francis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellie Wimmer, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Alaysia White, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The match was White's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Naylissa Charles, who scored 16 points.
Florence has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Coolidge, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.
Florence will head out on the road to face off against San Tan Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (San Tan Foothills is ranked 206th, while Florence is ranked 185th). As for Coolidge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against American Leadership Academy - Anthem South at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
